Time Allowances manages category time, including Entertainment, Games, and Social Media. Screen Time Schedules supports weekday, weekend, and custom routines. Age-based suggestions are adjustable starting points, rather than one limit that every household must follow. Scheduling chapter.
The ordinary week is rarely a neat grid. There is homework on one night, a late journey on another, and perhaps a video call with a relative at the weekend. A useful plan notices those details before the settings are chosen.
Sketch the real week
Write down the parts of the day the family wants to protect: getting ready, meals, sleep preparation, or time together. Then add the activities where a device has a purpose, such as schoolwork, making something, or contacting somebody.
Talk about the differences between those activities. A long creative project and a series of short videos can take similar amounts of time while asking for different kinds of attention. The conversation should be about what the child is doing, as well as when they are doing it.
Choose a simple weekday arrangement first. Make a separate weekend plan only where the routine actually changes. Too many exceptions can make the agreement hard for everybody to understand.
Leave room to find out what works
Agree how to handle an unfinished task, a special event, or an unexpected journey. An exception does not need to mean the entire plan has failed. It needs a clear reason and a way to return to the usual routine.
After a week, review one difficult moment. Was the stopping point poorly timed? Did the plan accidentally get in the way of a family conversation? Was an adult expecting something that had never been explained?
